Material Handling & Control
Corporate Interior Solutions procedures of handling product packaging are catered to provide efficiency on all aspects and departments of our firm, as well as helping the environment to the best of our abilities. Our method is based on a command effect that starts at the job site and continues all the way to our premises. The following is a sequence in detail as to how our procedure works;
Direct - Receive on site.

All product is checked out piece by piece, using bingo numbers printed on the box labels, we will then physical inspect for any visual signs of damage. Product is put on our equipment fully packaged and staged at a designated location near were the build is going to take place. After careful review of paperwork versus product received notations are made on the bill of lading and proper paperwork is signed. If any damage exists the crew will start opening these specific items giving us a chance to capture any potential damages and make exception reports on the pieces. After that we focused on striping the product in sequence, depending on each type of project and product needed to start the installation.

All project sites are run in the same fashion and in the same order when the jobsite conditions allow, all packaging materials are separated from the beginning; Cardboard, styrofoam, plastic, regular debris, clean wood pallets, treated wood pallets, etcetera. Depending on the size of the project two main things will happen;

All cardboard containers get fully opened and completely flattened, being placed on carts and not stacked on the floor. This method is efficient for the following reasons;

  • It allows us to make sure the no hardware or small pieces get left behind in the boxes.
  • Avoids double and triple handling of cardboard.
  • We fit allot more cardboard on our carts, saving room on our trucks, creating less loads, saving fuel and exhaust emissions.
All plastics, styrofoam and debris get separated into large 65 gallon heavy duty bags.
Small projects
All standard procedures apply with one exception the debris will get put all at once on the truck and will be brought back to our facility were our warehouse personnel will offload and separate it into our yard, into the respective bins for later disposal at a local facility. This takes place after we have accumulated enough debris from various job sites to make the trip to the recycling center fuel efficient.
Large projects
All standard procedures apply on a larger scale. Arrangements are made by our dispatch department with our foremen to will-call the packaging and debris material in an orderly fashion. The big difference is that these materials go direct to the material recycling center. Going direct avoids extra handling at out facility and also extra fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.

Cardboard
Antonio's Carton- We have worked with Antonio for 10 years. He takes our cardboard for recycling adding it with other companies therefore creating not only a small green business for himself and his family but one that is mutually beneficial.

When possible we reuse pallets from the jobsites at our warehouse, but they must meet specific requirements, such as size, material, great and safe condition. Our next step before removal for recycling is to talk to our neighbors to see if they need any of them and then the final decision is made to dispose of them.

In regards to the jobsite discrepancies and damage products our leads are equipped with digital cameras to capture any loads that come to the sites shifted or in bad condition, this way we can capture on film to accompany our discrepancy reports, upon finding concealed damage. This report is made via our "discrepancy report form" (see attached) and the project managers get an informal report right away by phone or in person. Arrangements are made as to how the claim form and its supporting information are to proceed from the job site. All packaging materials and the damaged item are disposed of upon manufacturers resolution of claim both at the job site as well as at our facility.

In regards to damage at our facility, the same procedures are followed in terms of the documentation, but only product with visible signs of damage are opened. With the exception of small orders. All punch items are opened and inspected 100% of the time to check for damages, as well as the right finish and correct part. Then we schedule a return trip to complete the punch list. This enables us and our clients to avoid embarrassing trips to the site and not being able to complete the project once again.

After covering all of the efforts in the field as well as our facilities, Corporate Interior Solutions feels that not only are we helping our environment, but we are also maintaining our jobsites clean and manageable and we are also helping our bottom line which in turn passes the savings along to our clients and their clients.
